This digital story was created by 15-year-old Kate McCarthy about her mom, Maureen McCarthy, who has a fatal lung disease called Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM). Maureen interacts with the world in a completely different way, which to her is a "New Normal." She shows how even with challenges like poor health and a fatal disease, stress is optional. It's inspiring to see how she teaches people to create their own "Get Out of Jail Free" card on a daily basis.

  • You have a wonderful attitude, Maureen. I too have a life threatening illness, but like you, I try to live my life to the fullest and enjoy the times I have. We can't change our illness, but our attitude can help us make things go a little smoother. Just a wonderful video! Janet

  • Dear Maureen,

I am the french friend of the Olsen family. I saw you on Orlando meeting Webcast .

I didn't know LAM after, I read on Google (in french of course). I found you formidable . You was like a sunbeam and it was a great time when you spoke on live. Thank you.

    Have a nice day.

    Jean-Marie
