A short documentary telling the story of the Bethnal Green Tube shelter disaster in which 173 people were killed in a tragic accident in 1943.

I produced it for the MA in Documentary Practice course at Brunel University.

I've lived in Bethnal Green off and on for 7 years and almost daily I walk down the same stairs, descending into the tube station, where so many people died all those years ago.

Over 67 years on and there are still flowers and wreaths attached to the railings outside. Many of the now elderly survivors and members of the victims families are still fighting to raise funds for a fitting memorial as at the moment the only reminder of this terrible event is a small plaque above the staircase.

The charity raising funds for the memorial can be found here stairwaytoheavenmemorial.org/

On the same subject you can see also the films "Coping with casualties" and "The After Effects"
