Following Saturday's appearance at the Glastonbury Festival, Bruce appeared on Sunday, June 28, at the Hard Rock Calling Festival in London's Hyde Park. Like Glastonbury, this turned into another magical show making the back-to-back U.K. festival appearances an all time highlight for Bruce and the Band. Here, in full, is the opening song from Bruce's set, "London Calling." (Joe Strummer/Mick Jones).

Lyrics:
London calling to the faraway towns
Now war is declared - and battle come down
London calling to the underworld
Come out of the cupboard, you boys and girls
London calling, now don't look to us
Phoney Beatlemania has bitten the dust
London calling, see we ain't got no swing
'Cept for the ring of that truncheon thing

CHORUS
The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Meltdown expected, the wheat is growing thin
Engines stop running, but I have no fear
Cause London is drowning and I, live by the river

London calling to the imitation zone
Forget it, brother, you can go at it alone
London calling to the zombies of death
Quit holding out - and draw another breath
London calling - and I don't wanna shout
But while we were talking I saw you nodding out
London calling, see we ain't got no high
Except for that one with the yellowy eyes

CHORUS x2
The ice age is coming, the sun's zooming in
Engines stop running, the wheat is growing thin
A nuclear error, but I have no fear
Cause London is drowning and I, I live by the river

Now get this
London calling, yes, I was there, too
An' you know what they said? Well, some of it was true!
London calling at the top of the dial
And after all this, won't you give me a smile?
London Calling

I never felt so much alike, like-a, like-a...

  • Why he didnt try I'm so Bored with U.S.A insted London Calling???? hahahaha

  • Bruce does Joe, could it get any better

  • As i had been at this gig I showed this to my 17 year old daughter, who, to be fair to her has reasonable musical taste. She commented that it was amazing and must have been a brilliant end to the show; for the first time in many years I reduced her to silence when I told her this was the opening track - not the encore! OMG she said what was the rest of it like? Impressive I said.Needless to say she is coming to see him the next time he's in town!

  • The boss can shut up more than a million people as seen in the Super Bowl. He's the one.

  • Why the Clash is still the baddest band ever. I love Bruce, Steve and the guys and they give it up to Joe, Mick, Paul, and Topper. Thanks boys. You're a damn fine rock band yourselves.

  • @LewisFall well you picked two good ones to start you off. 2009 was the first year that bruce and the band did festivals. If you enjoyed this, make sure you catch him on his next tour when it ll just be them for 3 hrs, no support , no breaks, no fancy lights, just pure magic. And if you can afford it go to a couple of nights, the sets always change !!
