My new CD, "An Ancient Lyre" is dedicated to evoking the sounds of ancient Egypt, with an improvisation on an ancient Egyptian scale, and my arrangements for solo lyre, of some of the haunting Egyptian folk songs from Port Said...check it out here:

This is my own arrangement for solo lyre, of another fantastic melody I heard on the CD by the Egyptian Simsimiyya band, El Tanbura; "Between the Desert and the Sea" (2006) - an outstanding album, which almost transports the listener back to the Court of Ramses the Great! This album features the haunting, ancient sounds of the Egyptian Simsimyya and Tanbura lyres - which have their origins dating back to the Middle Kingdom of ancient Egypt, almost 4000 years ago!

This is my own arrangement of track 10 of the album,"Salah" - one of Egypt's most ancient traditional songs. On the album , it is sung in an old form of the Arabic language. "The song's orgins can probably be attributed to the ancient tribal groups from Arabia and the Persian Gulf through a reference to Indian girls tending to the sick" (quoted from the liner notes)

All of my 9 albums of mystical, ancient lyre music are now available from iTunes...

  • your computer generated egyptians tend to be a little too white...and no I 'm no afrocentrist, just they were not ( are not ) a pink folk. apart from that the music it's beautifull you should try to play it on the simsimyya.

  • Really sorry about that! This never even occured to me, as I was frantically Google searching for suitably mystical, ancient Egyptian images - it was certainly not my intention to offend anyone !! I wish I could get my hands on a REAL simsimyya lyre - anyone know where I could purchase one here in the not-so-exotic, rain-ravaged UK??? :o)

  • The original word for the Empire of The Sun is KEMET which means BLACK...just get that thru your heads and enjoy the video.

  • I agree they have truly lightened our skin when it comes to Western Civilization, they tend to lighten the skin so that history will be even more distorted. Lighter complexions was not in existence until the caucus mountains, several years after the tower of babel.

  • Lol it sounds like music from far east

  • guys simsimyya exists in many parts of the Arab world, its not exclusive to egypt...also its origin is debated, some say egypt some say Arabia some say Babylonia

  • Wow no offence to no one, don't worry I tend to think as childish those who flame over stuff in the web, the web is the web...it's only close to real life, not the same. With all the nazi stuff going over here and there, you think I can get offended by a couple of pink pharaohs? A real sinsimyya you can buy it in Egypt...hard in the uk I think. Keep playing!
