Classic Game Room HD reviews the Sega Saturn Model 2 controller for the Sega Saturn video game console. Yes, there's a model 1 and a model 2 controller. Evidently the model 1 (which is larger) was made specifically for us "big boned", overweight Americans (but we have a great personality!). The model 2 controller was the original Japanese controller for the more compact citizens of Japan. At some point in mid-1996 (I think) they started shipping a slightly refined Sega Saturn with the Model 2 controller which is quite different from the Model 1, both in terms of size and D-pad and button layout. CGR prefers the model 2's D-pad but the Model 1's size. The Model 2 is awesome for SHMUP style shooting games like Darius Gaiden and Radiant Silvergun. It also performs very well for fighters like Virtua Fighter. So here it is, the model 2 controller for the awesome Sega Saturn game system. Classic Game Room is hype and reviews the best in new and old video games and equipment, joysticks, controllers and other nonsense for modern and retro gamers.

I've just bought a Saturn and I have to say I'm dissapointed with the Mark 1 and Mark 2 controllers. This pad is not excellent. The dpad still feels cheap compared to the playstation dpad (better than the psp though, everything is) Nintendo dpads (nes, snes, gameboy, n64, evem the small Wii dpad) and to be honest the only dpad which is worse is the 360 one which moves around and is spongy and has too much travel, and breaks down...no-one agrees with me?
Okay, after playing Street Fighter on the Saturn for a bit I do like the dpad. But come on, the shoulder buttons are verging on unworkable (that could just be my controller's condition I suppose) and the 6 button layout is hampered by the lack of a cross pad layout with an extra set of two buttons, it's more like two rows of three buttons, which works fantastically for Street Fighter but not for games that rely on pressing face buttons simultaneously. Just my opinion.

I liked that pad much more.
I hope he reviews it, he reviewed all the other Sega controllers...
