☜❤☞ 'KOALA AND HER JOEY'.... THE KOALA IS A SMALL BEAR-LIKE, TREE- DWELLING MARSUPIAL NATIVE TO AUSTRALIA. Koalas start breeding at 3 years of age. Once a female has conceived it is a short 35 days before birth. At birth the baby koala... 'joey'... is blind, hairless, less than 1 inch long and weights less than 1 gram. It then crawls into its mothers pouch completely unaided, relying on its sense of smell, strong forelimbs and claws. Once inside the pouch the baby attaches itself to one of two teats and stays there drinking milk for the next 6 months.

The Koala lives almost entirely on eucalyptus leaves, and only drinks when it is ill, or at times when there is not enough moisture in the leaves... during droughts etc.
Eucalyptus leaves are poisonous to most animals but the koala's digestive system detoxifies the poison. They prefer the 'tip' of the leaves which is the juicest and softest part of the leaf.

Koalas spend up to 20 hours a day sleeping or resting in trees, curled up gripping the limbs with their feet. Today, they are found in Queensland, New South Wales Victoria and South Australia.
