after removing engine i found why it was making all the noise, to hear the engine running before it was removed see part 1.

this is discovery series 1 3.9 L from a 1997 150 km

had i known about this problem i would have takin the oil pan off first to inspect the pick up and put lock washers in, i would recomend checking the tention of the bolts when changing oil pan gasket, as they all leek. it may save you all the work i now have to do .

  • You think this a fairly common problem?

  • i am afraid it may be, the bolts are 1/4" unc but they are only 5/8" long, they can be replaced with one inch long bolts some times even 1-1/4" bolts, i put in one inch bolts covered with lock tight and i also put a gear tooth washer on it , then torqued to 7 foot pounds. so she aint coming loose again.

IF ANY ONE IS REPLACING AN OIL PAN GASTKET THIS SHOULD BE DONE. AS A PRECAUTION. it would only take a few minuts extra and cost less than a cheese burger.

  • Yeah... You've been in Australia quite a while... lol You've got a CanukLian accent... lol

  • ha ha its true and i know it .
