Turtle Journal returned dozens of diamondback terrapin hatchlings that emerged during the passage of Hurricane Irene to their natal sites on Lieutenant Island in South Wellfleet. These nests had been harvested just before Irene's arrival to ensure they were not destroyed in the predicted tidal surge. Hatchlings emerged as the barometric pressure dropped on Irene's approach, and these babies were freed after the storm had safely passed.
