The problem is that no-one knows who killed more Russian soldiers, The Germans or the Russians themselves.
-
@serafinialbert well you also knew tht russia did came to berlin earlier than the british soldiers
-
@carlnardo Yes, that was the point at the time and it shortened the war. But I still belive that red army would have defeated Axis without d-day.
-
@Xhouffaed i thought the point of d day was to start a third front so it could take pressure off their russian allies and spread out the german forces
-
@serafinialbert Even without the invasion of normandy the red army would have probably still kicked germany's ass, so it wasn't that important in winning the war. What it did, was that shortened the war a lot, and it prevented the red army from occupating the whole europe.
(Sorry for bad english)

@MrNucch very well said. never forget.

@0willsy01 My pleasure...

@0willsy01 Almost. The Russians were allowed to get to Berlin first. The US didn't want to get into a street fight in Berlin and the Russians were given the honor. They were attacked directly, while the US was not, and so the Russians were the best force to take Berlin. Fitting revenge. Remember almost 40% of the Russian casualties in the battle for Berlin were "friendly fire".

@johnbender1985 I agree we could not have won the war without the US due to their mass production of war weapons and their fighting manpower. However, the Canadians also landed on D Day along side the brits & Yanks and did quite well for themselves advancing futher inland then any of the allied countries. Also the Americans were not fighting for the Brits we were fighting for each other you did not come into the war to save Britain you came in because the Germans declared war on you.
That day a world was rescued from potential german victory in Europe. What would the world have been like. We do not even want to think about the possible conseuences. That day brave men, some who did not make it out of the higgins boats. And those who went to fight on set an example for future generations of young Americans. God bless the greatest generation!This message is dedicated to my grandfather who received the bronze star and was the most fearlless and courageous man I have ever known.

War is the WORST thing ever. Sadly, it's something that won't ever stop. So many evil people in the world (Hitler, Tojo, etc.), we gotta fight it.
Just honor the men that do, that fight and, sadly, die to stop it.
