    Regardless of their motives France still was a primary factor in the American victory in both the American Revolution and the War of 1812 (The British might have pursued 1812 a bit harder if Napoleon wasn't tearing up Europe at the time). Also Britain had more important colonies to worry about that were much more profitable at the time but France's involvement definitely helped significantly during the early wars. Also some officers like LaFayette contributed significantly to the war effort.
