  • I served in this new "mistake" too bad people just refuse to understand before it's too late.

There were eight of us, from my high school and neighborhood that joined. I'm all that's left. I've said goodbye and played trumpet for each of them and comforted their families.

Please, please, don't make our Generals, Admirals, Marines, Sailors, and Soldiers say in vain, "On Behalf of a Grateful Nation." Its all the solace us survivors have.

God Bless, and we'll keep fighting.

  • this guy is a hero its people like him that alows us to be what we are and alow us to have the lesher and lugshery that we live in now (plz exuse the spelling its not the point)

  • I never met my dad's older brother. He was a Builder 2nd Class, 4th Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (Sea Bees), deployed to SE Asia 1970-72. 6 months after he got back, while out drinking to forget, he left a bar in his 69 Mustang, got sideways, and hit a semi head-on. He didn't die in Vietnam, but my grandmother said Vietnam killed him.

  • And so all know, Niles actually grew up in New Bremen, OH, not South Dakota as the song says. He graduated with my dad and was a good friend of his. Thanks to all who served this great nation!

  • i grew up in south dakota close to deadwood, and to hear niles story really hits home, i served in the marine corps, and its is true that greater love hath no man then to lay down his life for his brother.. heres a shot for you niles and all the great men lost in these wars! god bless this country

  • i have much respect for Niles Harris. but with regard to the description, Niles was not Special Forces, I am in the 173rd and it is to me the BEST paratrooper unit in this great military. God bless the USA

  • @MurPaDiLos god bless you. If there is a heaven then they went up in the greatest way. They died to defend this country.

  • god bless u niles, u are a true american hero

  • You can say what you want about the Vietnam war and why it was fought, but you gotta have an unending respect and admiration for someone who went through the hell people like Niles Harris and Theodore Shamblin went through.

  • @lsjed Hey, how old is your dad now? Would you mind asking him if he knew my father? His name was Theodore Maxie Shamblin. thanks
