This is sooo loungey..(and I LUV IT.) Any musician (such as myself) who played in bars can appreciate the homage the Monkees paid with their original version of this-the pomp room intro was done by Micky, and the loungey (there's that word again-sorry) vocal, by Mike..
I can smell the cigarettes.. and hear the chatter.. So sweet...This is, as near a replication of a very obscure Monkees song as I could produce.. It has all the elements of being a musician in public as I could find..
From back in the day.. Have a martini at the Palmer House (or scotch at home), enjoy the view, and feel the love....
Peace-I Love You All...

It's so smooth in a 70's am kind of way, but its such an awesome song.

I prefer your take on this song to mine
the original demo (from 66? 65?) of Nesmith's for this song is in a lower key btw, although still all those major7th chords

Keep listening to this one over and over again...close my eyes and I'm there in the scene you described, small table in the corner, enjoying the ambiance and the music. Nicely done, Larry.
