nasa wouldnt endanger the shuttle by flying anywhere near space junk and they know where most of it is in space for that reason,from ground based radar,so that leaves the question if its not junk what is it obviously they didnt realise it was there,so where did it come from,most of the stuff from the shuttle is jetisoned so that it re enters the earths atmosphere so the next missions are not put in danger from it
