The LOST music-video clip of the late Mac Silva performing his well known lament - with his band Blacklace. Recorded on 'The Block', Redfern in 1987-88.

• This video may be the 1st music-video clip of an Aboriginal singer/musician/band created by an Aboriginal producer-director ...

Produced and Directed by Madelaine McGrady.
Camera/Technical by Nick Power

Madelaine McGrady is the 1st Aboriginal filmmaker to produce and direct a feature documentary "We Fight" - a lively and beautiful view behind the 'Aboriginal lines' inside the mass street marches calling for national native Land Rights timed to co-incide with the Brisbane Commonweath Games in 1982.

This was a one-off project.. It took some time for Madelaine to talk Mac around into doing it as it hadn't been done before. As it was, blackfella bands had a hard time getting recording contracts or big dollars to make LP vinyl records for their music to be sold in shops.

Video likely shot with a single U-matic (3/4") videotape camera (JVC three-chip) in a single day - rushing around the eastern coast and back to Redfern CBD in Nick's little pale yellow square asian van.

And that's one thing that's worried me about that last tracking shot. This shot undoubtably had Madelaine in the back directing Nick as he did the camera-work through the van's open side door - so who was driving? :-)

Made with the assistance of Metro TV Ltd, Paddington, Sydney. Broadcast on UHF-31 as part of the Community TV Test Transmissions (1987-1988).
