http://vault.ncaa.com/ 25 points and 11 rebounds by "Never Nervous" Pervis Ellison led No.7 Louisville to a 72-69 victory over top-ranked Duke in the NCAA Final. This was the Cardinals' second title of the decade. Ellison became the first freshman to win tournament MVP honors since Utah's Arnie Ferrin in 1944.

  • What he did at UofL despite getting no support from the state was remarkable.

  • Denny Crum flat outcoached Coach K for much of this game. Does anyone agree?

  • No team of today would come within 15 points of these two teams.

  • As much as I hate U of L, I have to say they owned the 80s

  • @jacksmacker2 UofL and Kentucky hate each other ,,, where have u been

  • @T82486 But, Duke's team was better, IMHO. They won 37 games leading up to this game and played a much tougher schedule than Louisville. They had Johnny Dawkins, the high-scoring guard, who was the best player in America. They had Mark Alarie and Jay Bilas. They had point guard Tommy Amaker. They had solid freshman Danny Ferry. Yep, Duke had a more powerful team with an explosive offense. Crum made a few changes on defense during the Second Half, and the Blue Devils struggled.

  • @T82486 Haha! First of all, I will say that Coach K has had a better coaching career than Crum ever had. But Crum was SUPPOSED to outcoach him because he had more experience!? I have seen SO many coaches with less experience outcoach coaches with more experience. See Brad Stevens at Butler throughout the past two NCAA Tournaments. He outcoached multiple more experienced coaches. Also, Louisville had a better and more experienced team? Yes, they had guard Milt Wagner, Billy Thompson, and Ellison.

  • Ah, yea dummy because this was Coach K's 10th year as a head coach period so, he was supposed to out coach him. Plus Louisville had a better and more experienced team, great obsevation assclown.

  • @beaverpitt LOL. Hey man, thanks for pointing that out. I'm pretty sure that was Jeff Hall (#42) who beaned Danny Ferry. Take that, dookie. LOL.

  • @gymman1031 I agree 100%..

  • Loved the 86 UofL squad: Wagner, Thompson, Ellison, Crook, Hall: what a team!

  • Three pointer came into college basketball the next season. (Some leagues had experimented with it before but it was not a standard NCAA rule)So this was the last college game without the three pointer
