The Carolina Hurricanes never play hockey without wearing the right gear. The Governor's Highway Safety Program encourages you follow their lead and always wear your seat belt when riding in the car. This video shows what can happen to passengers who do not buckle up when a car crashes at 30 mph.
Transcription from the video:
Taking a hit on the ice is a lot like taking a hit in your car. Without the proper equipment, it can hurt.
Hello, I'm Darrell Jernigan, Director of the Governor's Highway Safety Program. And I'm Margaret Sylvester with the Raleigh Police Department.
We're here to remind you to always use proper equipment while traveling.
The Carolina Hurricanes know to wear their helmets on the ice. And you should know that if you're in a car, your safety belt is the best protection no matter where you're seated.
The following video show a front-end collision at 31 miles per hour. The crash dummy in the back seat is not buckled up. Watch what happens.
The back seat passenger slamming into the front seat exerts three and a half tons of force on the driver. Belted drivers are also five times more likely to die if rear seat passengers are not wearing their safety belt.
So please, always buckle up.
Remember, it's "Click It or Ticket."
