Summary: Institute for Global Security Law and Policy Lecture

Ted Gup has been a journalist and university professor for more than twenty-five years. He is the author of Nation of Secrets: The Threat to Democracy and the American Way of Life (Doubleday 2007), and The Book of Honor: Covert Lives and Classified Deaths At The CIA (Doubleday). The Book of Honor was named 2001 Book of the Year by Investigative Reporters and Editors, was a finalist for the J. Anthony Lucas Book Prize, and was a selection of the Book of the Month Club and History Book Club. A former staff writer for The Washington Post and Time Magazine, he has also written for National Geographic, Smithsonian, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Columbia Journalism Review, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, Mother Jones, Salon, The Village Voice, Slate and GQ. He has been a finalist for the Pulitzer in national reporting and recipient of the George Polk Award, the Worth Bingham Prize and the Gerald Loeb Award. In October 2007, he will be inducted into the Cleveland Journalism Hall of Fame. Gup grew up in Canton, Ohio, attended Western Reserve Academy, and studied classics at Brandeis University and Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. He has been a Fulbright Scholar to China, a grantee of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, a John Simon Guggenheim Fellow and a fellow of the Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy at Harvards Kennedy School of Government.
