The is the authentic sound of the original Arvinode exhaust on a 1965 K code Mustang. The car is numbers-matching and winner of multiple MCA Gold Awards in the Concours Driven class.

I wanted to bring back the noise of the original Arvinode exhaust system for early High Performance Mustangs. This footage is the road test of the final prototype of the concours correct system that was fabricated by Waldron's Antique Exhaust. With the help of Waldron's owner Joe Tonietto I installed 4 different versions of the system to get the fit & finish dialed in. Joe did the fabrication work in Michigan and I did the installations in California. The drive-bys were filmed alone on the backroads of Northern California early one morning.

The Arvinode quarter wave system was equipped on HiPo Mustangs produced from 10/15/64 to 3/22/65. The reproduction was built from original Arvin and Ford engineering plans. There was generous and invaluable help from former Arvin and Ford employees, and HiPo Mustang Forum members who contributed to the project. We knew we had succeeded when former Arvin factory shop foreman Jim Abott told us, "You nailed it!"

The project was a great adventure and the story has been featured in a number of magazines including Mustang Monthly, Performance Business, Muscle Car Enthusiast, and Mustang Times.

  • Are you running headers or the HiPo cast iron manifolds?

  • @rob4disco

    Those are original hipo manifolds.

  • How different do you think the car would sound with headers? Where did you film this clip?

  • @rob4disco

It wouldn't sound original with headers.

Filmed in Northern California. (That is mentioned in the text of the web page.)

  • Hey you guys, if you wouldnt mind watching my videos. My 1965 mustang with a brand new rebuilt 347, just got done after coming back from a deployment.

watch 65 mustang test drive, part one, two, and three

  • How different do you think the car would sound with headers?

  • I just added my Arvinode dual exhaust to my 66/289 mustang. Its the best sound ever, beats alot of these bumble bee sounding exhausts out there.

  • The Arvinode had a tuned exhaust chamber followed by resonators at the tail.

  • what did this Arvinode exhaust system compose of? Glasspacks? Great sound.

  • How much did that system cost????
