Oversimplified ideas on rigidity. A piece of plywood is rigid, good luck.

I don't agree with this fitting. The heel should never raise more than 1/4 of an inch and the laces should be tied snug to allow the boot to be a second skin. The complaints I get from my customers is usually about how little the boot fits and how much heel lift they get. Securing the foot with proper lacing and ensuring the heel doesn't overly lift is the right thing to do in a fit in addition to length and width checks.

yup fit is key. it took about 6 months after NOLS for my numbtoe to go away. some guys i know had symptoms persisting for over a year.

It sounds like we're on the same page. In the video we say the heel should move about 1/4". No heel movement is hard on your foot and too much heel movement will cause blisters.
