General Hospital 1985 Asian Quarter Part 178

Part 178. Robert has holed himself in his communications room and won't come out until he's got a plan. Sean tells Anna that they know he won't emerge until then. Sean, the new doorman, welcome Frisco and Felicia into the house. Edward calls an emergency board meeting about Buzz and the hospital van. Rick calls Ginny to help with Buzz's case.

It might seem odd that the medical van stuff is stuck in the middle of the high drama of looking for Robin and the Ancient One but I think it's there for a number of reasons. To allow Anna something to do that she can control (supporting Buzz who has been her support throughout this ordeal), show Edward as a cutthroat (to hint at the following year's storyline where he tries to take control of Sean's company), show how out of sync Alan and Monica are (to jump start Sean and Monica's 86 affair) and probably one of the most important reasons ... after days of nothing but the Asian Quarter storyline, to have the other characters who have not been seen for a while to have a chance to interact. Unlike today's GH, I think the writers were very sensitive to the fact that you had return to the hospital and this was a way to do it that was very fluid.

The Q mansion set here doesn't look familiar...is my memory just not so great, or did they do a "remodel" (new set) at some point prior to the early 90's?

It gets a redesign in a few years time...can't recall exactly when though. When Herbert Quartermaine comes to visit, the Q's spent a lot of time in the study because the rest of the mansion was being redesigned.

I like how 80's soaps set up a new s/L before the current one is finished. It keeps everything moving nicely instead of just all of a sudden.

It's so surreal watching these -- I *feel* like I've seen it already b/c I read all the summaries in Soap Opera Digest (while watching NBC soaps), but I didn't start actually watching 'til the early 90's. So sometimes things don't look the way I expect them to. Many thanks for posting the full storyline!

My goodness, they do drink an awful lot of tea! I remember an interview when Finola Hughes remarked how she got bored when Anna didn't do much other than pour tea (or maybe she said coffee...but it sure seems based on this that there was way more tea-pouring than coffee-pouring going on).
