FIRE: Chris Rado grenades his 1,200 horsepower Scion tC at Global Time Attack

Chris Rado pushes his 1,200 horsepower front-wheel drive Scion tC to the absolute limits during the Global Time Attack season opener at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in Buttonwillow, California. Coming around one of the final turns of his hot lap a cam sensor failed then caused the vanos to be fully advanced which more than likely tagged, then dropped a valve. Another key factor is that due to excessive g's in the corners oil pressure dropped enough to score a bearing which eventually put a rod through the block igniting the fire and burning a portion of the engine bay and electronic components.

The onboard fire suppression system failed when Chris Rado pulled the pin so he doused the fire with backup fire extinguisher. Thankfully Chris walked away unharmed.

It has several TRACK records too though, not class, fastest to ever hit that track... Anybody arguing FORM over function in a race car should just stick to Forza and Gran Turismo.

Its has several track records in class......How many teams are still running fwd class, and are really willing to make the commitment to a class few people are interested? If this front wing idea was that great, like all other great ideas it would be copied, its not being copied, so everyone else found a better way to do it without looking ridiculous.

Older tC's run a nicely featured 2AZ-FE Camry motor which has proven to be one of the most reliable engines in the world and many are in the 500k mile club before head gasket replacement, now the xB 2.0 comes with one as well. Now that they have the Scion FR-S running a 200hp Subaru Boxer 4 with a RWD drivetrain they have about every flavor of car you'd want.
