George Clooney lookalike Walter Berry gives a terrific performance in Beethoven's Fidelio.

I remember as a kid new to opera thinking of Walter Berry as a genial singer of roles like Leporello and Papageno.

Then I heard his Pizarro on Klemperer's recording of Fidelio and was blown away!

Usually Walter Berry wore glasses. With glasses he looked rather nerdy. Almost looking like silent comedian Harold Lloyd and Superman's Clark Kent. No joking!

Walter Berry was a brilliant singer! And what a sound-- not as dark and mushy as some German singers that we know and love.
