This particular episode was one of Carroll O'Connor's most extraordinary performances in the role of "Chief Bill Gillespie." The most poigniant part is when he steps up to the window of the viewing room looking into the execution room as George Brownlow is strapped into the gurney and the drugs are flowing into his body in the execution.
My mother once told me that almost they show this episode everytime she turns on the TV and this show is on. THis is one of my favorite shows. Caroll O'Conner did a wonderful job as the chief of Sparta Police Department.
