http://www.myboxingcoach.com - How to box in HD, the ultimate Boxing How To Guide on the Jab!

The boxing jab is the boxer's most important punch. The jab allows the boxer to control an opponent, be it on the attack or on the defensive. The jab provides a main method of commencing an attack and is consistently proven as a fight winner. Few things are more demoralising to an opponent as being continually popped in the face with a fast, accurate and well-timed jab.

Whilst we can talk about a fast and accurate jab, it's surprising how many boxers allow bad habits to creep in when using the jab. As mentioned, if the jab is thrown correctly it's a winner. On the other hand, if it isn't deployed appropriately then it's a key 'chink in the armour' that will more often than not lead to a flattened nose and an abject feeling of defeat!

  • just what i need a genuine pro to break down the science in bitesize chunks how to perfect these movements, ive just started boxing again im 24 and the last time i trained was when i was 16 so im very rusty but your videos are great! top work keep it up

  • @bigsolo1 Thanks, and welcome back to the sport!

  • Thank you so much for putting up these boxing techniques videos. I wouldn't even respond to these "armchair experts" that are so common on youtube. Its likely that the only boxing experience these individuals have comes from playing Fight Night on the playstation.

  • @nfletch57 Thank you, nice comment

  • @TheTony22019 Quite a dislikable person aren't you. I'm not an idiot, in fact, I've acheived more in 2 short years work on MyBoxingCoach than an angry, bitter and twisted individual such as yourself ever has. Do us all a favour, if you have any comments by all means leave them, just avoid the mean-arse bitter "never amounted to anything" personal insults. Seems funny, wasn't that long ago you wanted to talk with me. Dominated by your ego. I'll not respond to any more of your comments

  • When I was younger I was taught to step into my jabs. Not just shifting my weight forward as you demonstrated, but actually stepping in with my lead leg, whilst keeping my rear leg planted. Might I ask, is this also wrong in your opinion?

  • @myboxingcoach oooo i knew it! it was kinda obvious that you were doing a stationary jab just for demonstration. because i was thinking the whole time..footwork is the most important aspect for every sport..hes a coach after all. of course he knows that the step in is important. lol

  • @ShuyuKoukin I understand and agree. In an ideal world we would always go forward with a jab so that we can 'assert' ourselves on the fight. But jabbing and moving together are 2 skills, not one. As a coach I am isolating the jab for the purposes of demonstration. In my Boxing Training Foundation available on the site I describe how to combine the jab with foot movement. Thanks

  • @myboxingcoach thats weird. im not a professional boxer or anything but the way how my teacher taught me how to throw a jab was to step in with your leading foot. btw was this a stationary jab? if its not can you tell me some good reasons why you're not stepping in for your jabs? im just curious because this is really different from how i was taught. or maybe thats how english people throw jabs? XD

  • great video the best i've seen
