Nurse Practitioners do not have sufficient knowledge or breadth of training to safely practice independently. While NPs seek autonomy, and soon, equivalent pay, Physician Assistants provide a perfect solution to the shortage of providers. They can augment Physician-led care by treating patients through the medical model. Years of work as a nurse and a short education emphasizing nursing theory and basic algorithms to treat patients don't qualify one as a competent provider.
