  • Sounds like it's from the Mike Ephron tapes! That same slightly out of tune keyboard can be heard. If you've ever heard those recordings you'd remember the keyboards.

  • @sharpstat It is indeed from the Mike Ephron tapes.Do you have copies of any of the other tracks from the tapes, Namely: She Went To Bed With My Guitar Free Thunder Cave Man Bells Strokin' A Lady On Each Hip Baby Chicken Strut Down Mean Blues Feels Good Fried Cola Jim Is tender Too Madagascar Young Jim Lift off Swifts Wing Spiked With Heady Dreams Giraffe
  • @colyzee is that jerry velez playing shit on the congas ??? so thats how he was sounding at woodstock no wonder they shut them all off its crap he is playing in those blues (i mean the conga guy ) not jimi

  • @blackdude57 I think this is Juma Sultan on the congas, who also played with jerry velez on congas at Woodstock. As far as I know the Woodstock lineup rehearsed for less than two weeks before the festival and never really got it together, plus jimi was up 3 days straight, which didn't help any, after leaving the stage he then collapsed with exhaustion.

  • its rare because it sort of sucks. Like man jimi did better stuff than this.

  • @snapperjohn1000 The reason I uploaded it is because I thought people would like to hear Hendrix's lesser known tracks, wheather it's any good or not is neither here nor there. Show me a good track of Hendrix that I haven't heard. If someone offered you a crap painting done by Van Gogh, do you think you would say, No I don't want that it's crap.Personally I would rather have a crap painting done by Hendrix, than any painting done by Van Gogh, without taking monetary value into account of course.

  • To be such a "great guitarist"; Jimi Hendrix made some of the crappiest, sloppiest recordings I've ever heard! Guess that's why I've never listened to him much. Beatles and Stones made better records than this 5 or 6 years earlier!

  • I cannot be certain that these recordings are from n.y.c. 1964, but mike ephron tells the story on the back cover of 'jimi hendrix at his best', vol.2 released by saga records. The other songs include 'down mean blues', 'feels good', 'fried cola', 'jimi is tender too', and 'madagascar'.

  • @sharpstat yeah i have some lp's called the genuis of hendrix vol. 1,2 &3 - all with those keys, bongos and clean strat- maybe recorded up in woodstock? the albums claim to be recorded in nyc '64 but i think not

  • @sharpstat What you say implies that it may be a Fender Rhodes electric piano. These generate notes by way of reeds. The upside of this is that they don't need to be plugged in, the downside is that they can't really be re-tuned. It is possible that it was a tone-wheel Hammond being plugged through a low quality, or overloaded, electric system and that this slowed down the tone generator wheel, leaving it slightly flat across its range. Now, whoever has the sleeve notes, quote me wrong...

  • The congas start out fighting the slow blues guitar but eventually Hendrix gives in and plays in time to the nutty conga beat.

  • @colyzee If you have noticed they dont sound on any recording from woodstock hahaha if this was the way they were playing its justified
