I decided to, for once, rid myself of the wealth of synthesizers, effects and gear and make music with a very minimalistic approach. I set myself 5 rules:

- Only 5 mono audio tracks in total.
- Only use the MoPho analog monophonic synthesizer
- No MIDI sequencing. Only allowed to use the MoPho's 16-step sequencer.
- No keyboard playing. Use dubbing, knob-twisting or sequencing for melodies, harmonies etc.
- Only two send/return fX - reverb and delay. No insert FX.

This is a very minimalistic approach compared to how I usually make music (and most other people too), but in my opinion, the results are simply stunning.

though it takes a bit of time to get used to, you start programming advanced patches which fill out multiple roles in a track. The tricky thing is to make it sound good at the same time! :)

This track is both a demo of the MoPho's awesome sound and features (the 4x16-step sequencers is pure love!) as well as a test of my own sound economizing and programming skills!

I hope you enjoy it! :) Especially check out the fat beats and bass ;)

  • This is brilliant ! Does the MoPhot have a micro tuning feature ? in 1:35 I noticed that the Bach fuge motive has the G note sounding a bit sharper than it should.

  • The sequencer has several tuning options for every note, yes. :) So it's, sort of, basic microtuning.

  • awesome results!

do the drums fit in just one seq track? or you have to separate them on individual tracks?

  • Mostly, they were on one track. Basically, i'd have sequencer 1 run the oscillator mix (osc1 being a sine for the kick, osc2 being inactive), sequencer 2 controlling the filter, and sequencer 3 the noise amplitude for hats/snare :)

  • as a person who makes electronic music i can affirm that the parameters this person set up were very restricting. as a person who wants to get a MoPho, i say 'thanks for convincing me to buy something i already wanted to." thumb up good tune.

  • briliant !

  • This rocked, I'd love to see more of this sort of thing.

  • cool, i really enjoy each time i find something a bach's synthesizer

  • Very nice track 5/5...Now i want a Mopho too...Keep doin it:)Peace

  • Would love a higher quality version of this. Seriously this track convinced me to get this synth for sure. Great work

  • I have my tetra now :D Doing stuff like this is really fun - I have an MBase01 for kick + the 4 synth parts + sp404 for random samples and effects... people tend to go overboard when buying hardware.. I say, make use of what you've got!

  • HQ MP3/OGG Download plz!!!!
