The Vancouver Province today reported that yes in fact Canadian student scientists were the first to get LIDAR imagery of snowfall on mars! LIDAR bounces lasers off the atmosphere to get readings on composition. People say a government could not keep a big secret but here you are finding out of one.

If someone at the decision level at CSA wants to tell me Martians are terraforming Mars and not the heat of sun I accept that with imagery and physical evidence. I don't believe in conspiracies like Global warming I guess.

Also something to consider as a voter if Members of Parliment are operating under threat of prison?, expulsion from parliment? or ridicule? over this that is not Canadian at all.

That is not a free & open government is it? What/who are they afraid of exactly?
I for one who's family has served this country would strongly defend a member if charged leaking this info, I am also sure many other Canadians would speak out for those brave enough in parliment to keep us informed of good and bad things that affect us all no matter what private outside lobbying pressure is put on them.

Although the announcement was gagged or silenced by the Government during Election, something un-Canadian and un-democratic. Each Canadian owns a portion of the huge funding they recieve and any corporate input must take second place to the taxpayers plain and simple or it is mis-use of funds.

Since the 70's ( http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-6292577234133732501&ei=pb8XSdu-L5... ) ice and atmosphere has been strongly suggested and even ice caps imaged by NASA. The fact that the northern polar cap is all but gone and that clouds able to generate snow crystals are present further points to a solar warming trend and last I checked the rover was the only car running there and it is electric, no CO2 emmisions. Perhaps a stirling motor with independant heat source, I build stirling engines no big deal there.

The reality? I think that Nasa has a lot of control over our government not necessarily the CSA directly. Global warming on Mars is a hard thing to swallow when we are being taxed on Co2 here.

Announced this week Canada plans a moon lander and fields Canadian contracts to fill it. Finally we may be able to find all that left-over 60's stuff from Apollo that no one has even photographed yet from earth? the Indian government is doing radar imaging of the whole moon soon so we will find out perhaps if Hollywood was behind the Apollo missions.

FACT: Water vapour makes individual carbon output insignificant as it is a far larger contributor to "global warming" even Al Gore says that!

Huge part of the Carbon tax theory puzzle and that is why they would also not highlight this. The whole of Canada could take part in solving these problems if the privaliged few allowed it. Awarding contracts in the millions on things small Canadian business could be benefitting from. Machinists closing that don't expect to have to lobby for opportunity etc.

I don't think Harper wanted this quiet. I will take a guess this is Policy, so that a sitting Prime Minister does NOT make political hay out of the story. i.e. "I'm doing a Great Job, Here's Good News!"

I'll guess our Space program remembers what happens when a technical achievement becomes a political Flag. The Liberals Loved the AvroArrow and Waved it. The Conservatives used it as a poster child for mis-spending of Liberals.
