sailed on the Achille Lauro to Australia in July 1971 . via Naples,Genoa,Malta, Tenerife and Cape Town. She was a stunning looking ship from all angles. I was a £10 pom at the time and still have copies of the ships newsletters . such a sad end to a fine ship although she would have ended up in a chinese or indian scrapyard.

I sailed on this ship in 1990, from Sydney to Noumea. The best seven nights ever! Me and a mate befriended one of the crew, who took us into the engine room and showed us bullet holes from the terrorist attack.

The best three cruises of my life I had on this wonderful cruise ship. I was so fortunate to be given a book on this ship printed in Italian and English which I shall treasure. I was on the cruise before she sank. May she always RIP
