yes there is some issues with the Triumph so it depends on what your priority is. .
The GPS problem seems to be a slow lock that hopefully can be fixed with a software update. In the mean time if you want maps working now In locations and security enable use wireless networks at the time you are using map. Triumph battery doesn't last as long but triumph charges faster then the optimus (yep optimus 1500 battery and triumph 1400). If you read old complaints when optimus released about how horribly long the battery was to fully charge. The screen flash happens when you unlock as soon as the screen locks. it doesn't happen when the phone screen has been locked for 10 seconds ( I timed it ). I even tried reformatting phone to see if it was an application running in the background. Why? don't know yet.

UPDATE: today I got a replacement and no screen flicker. Yeah. I will be keeping track of everything I do and when and if it starts again. For those of you going to store and getting replacements DO CALL VM and let them know. They are suppose to be email reports of problems to somebody in charge of what is going on. With that told to me today... VM seems to be looking into something about complaints.

I want to correct my self about speaker phone issues pertaining to echo. I tested out what you were saying. Funny everybody I talk to says I sound fine but I am just a bit pickier. So when I got on the receiving end of the Triumph I heard very slight echo. This seems to be noise canceling mic issue and doesn't happen with bluetooth. If you look up other way more expensive phones you can find that issue and I have also seen people make their own patches. So at this point who knows if it is hardware or software.

If you are having problems with virgin mobile phones receiving message of "within range of a Sprint Private network" talk to virgin mobile about an issue with airave and what they can do to get a phone flashed so that will work near a airave device. Hopeful sprint will fix this issue asap.

Optimus for
Battery, reception, proven reliable, screen richer colors

Triumph for
adobe flash support, bigger screen, front camera video chat, touch area focus for camera, bigger area for large hands and touch screen text

I LOVE my triumph.. Add "Go Launcher EX" and you have all the added features it is missing.

No offence, but it seem weird taking "review advice" from someone that references a 1,000 megahertz processor instead of 1 gigahertz. Good overview of each phone. Thanks.
