http://screencasttutorial.org Please comment and rate this! This question is perhaps one of the most often asked in the past on the XP systems. Here is how to do it in Windows 7. I have a RealTek HD Audio sound card, but the settings should be similar across any Windows 7 audio system, as they all share the new Windows 7 audio sub-systems. • I don't have a line-in option under Recording, just Stereo Mix and the Microphone and a Mic in. But neither of those has a "Listen" tab. (Vista x64)

Does this mean that the above method is impossible for me?

  • @Jjvalour I believe you are correct. You'll have to find some other way to mix your voice-over over the audio, I'm afraid.

  • The computer I am using doesn't have Stereo Mix installed.

I had an idea to plug a double sided cord in the microphone jack and headphone jack 2, but I haven't tested it yet.

  • @dargereldren That is a totally excellent solution. However, keep in mind that the microphone input jack is much more sensitive than a line-in jack, but you can make it the same by using an "Attenuating Patch Cord" from Radio Shack if you have those nearby. Search for "6.5-Ft. Attenuating Dubbing Cord with 1/8" Phone Plug" to find the item, or add "DIY" - the top article at the Audacity forum includes a link how to make one. It mentions that laptop mic inputs are usually mono.

  • @Chad99tt CamStudio doesn't look at the "Communication" settings, I believe. It only considers which is set as the default recording device. (Right-click and select "Set as Default")

  • @tbritton33 o, Instead of having line in enabled as communication can I have my Mic?

  • @smbdude24 Too bad. Likely Stereo Mix either doesn't exist or is hidden by your registry. There is some registry change some people have made - search through my comments or for "stereo mix registry" perhaps.

  • I did the show disabled devices but it's still not there

  • @ashbil31 I like to make people laugh. (Well, and I actually like their librarian and converters - Apple Lossless is still a fantastic format.)

  • why are u using Itunes if ur on windows lol
