The North Fjallbak route (Fjallabaksleið nyrðri) is a rugged yet scenic detour through the highlands north of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, including a stretch of road through the picturesque Landmannalaugar area and the remarkable Eldgjá canyon.
This route (Road #26 and Road #208/F208) is only open to full size SUVs and other large 4WD vehicles. Driving on Fjallabaksleið nyrði isn't just a great detour from the Ring Road, it's also a unique adventure in a part of Iceland largely untouched by humans!
