One critic gave this movie a .5 out of a 5 Star rating. Stating "Only a classic, tasteless action junkie would find this to be a good movie." CLASSIC, TASTELESS ACTION JUNKIE, RIGHT HERE!!!!

The music is what made this movie epic!!!!!

Being a veteran who served in the same battalion and regiment, 2/5, I gotta say it was refreshing to see a movie that went to great lengths to both look and feel authentic for once. They did this with the military scenes in war of the worlds and cloverfield. I had medium to low expectations due to the other sci-fi thrillers, but the VERY BEGINNING of the movie had my intiution going "holy shit...this is gonna be one hell of a movie."
Buy the audio soundtrack or download the WAVs. Incredible

"All stations, sitrep is as follows. Enemy element has advanced beyond the beach, infantry numbering in the thousands...no final estimate. -- We are not evacuating civilians fast enough, we are not evacuating fast enough, Be advised....we have friendlies trapped behind enemy lines."
The scene following that dialogue that plays from 2minutes into it had the entire theatre on the edge of their seats opening nite. The movie had its flaws, but it was still much much better than I expected it to be.

Thumbs up if your still listening and watching this movie in 2012. Perfect movie for 2012.
@klynch08 It's not long after the Lieutenant gives his "for home, country and family" speech before they embark the helicopters. My favourite part starts at 2:04, when they're flying over the beach with all that devastatiion; dead bodies and alien landing pods scattered along it. The marines just look down at it all with a look of shock on their faces. Is that the bit you spoke of? It gave me the chills when I saw it in the cinema and it still does when I listen to the music.
