@pardomtlca wrong snappers like to sit in water a little deeper then them bit for cooters yes that`s good

@srudolph48 They Float when they want. They have unique lungs and they suck in air to make them float. If he wants to sink he lets the air out and sinks. Don't let anyone tell you to lower the water level! The deeper that tank the better

@VideoHunter13 they'll chase food sometimes, i've seen my friend's swim after goldfish, but yeah, they do prefer to ambush their prey. Yeah, the water level is wayyy to high in that tank, at least a third of the water needs to get taken out, half would be better.

@srudolph48 Snapping turtle don't hunt or chase after food. They prefer sitting in shallow water and waiting for food to pass by them. You should probably make the water level just above his shell.
Also, how big are they now? I've got three of them and its been a over half a year. they're only 2 times bigger than before.

i agree with fallentoturtle

the reason why he floats is because the water level is WAY TO HIGH. snapping turtles like to be able to get a breath by still being able to touch the ground. the reason why he is floating is because it is easier to just stay at the srface and be able to get breaths then to have to swimm al the way to the top of the water. he controls if he wants to float or not. i highlt reccomend lowering the water level. check out my videos. if u have any questions feel free to ask. :)

Why does it float???
I'm not really sure, it makes it hard for him to catch those fish though! He's still working on swimming...I'm assuming his shell is pretty buoyant since it's still relatively light and small.
