Ava and Dr. Moore (Alec Baldwin) were in a failing relationship after Ava transitioned into a woman.

Dr. Moore impregnated another woman in an effort to bring them closer together through a child. But Dr. Moore still treated Ava like a trophy and made her depressed. So she left with her non-blood related son. She has no genetic ties to him in any way.
