Hitachi on the Hurstbridge line 6/1/12

Of the seven remaining Hitachi sets, only two have been seen running regularly in the past few weeks, and it is unclear weather the others will run again before the whole fleet is retired. On Friday 6/1/12 I managed to drag myself out of bed to photograph 284M-1975T-283M-291M-1982T-292M running the 5:48 am service from Hurstbridge to Flinders Street. It then returned to Hurstbridge and ran the 8:20 am Up service, before running to Heidelberg, then empty to Victoria Park to stable for the day. The Hitachi design turns 40 this year, and all were originally meant to be withdrawn by 2006.
