James Kalm has been a fan of Dave Hickey for years. The polemical Hickey has received a MacArthur Genius Grant, and used his ideas and prestige to establish a creative enclave at the University of Nevada at Los Vegas. Hes a provocative commentator on contemporary art, an essayist delving into deconstructivist theory, and a correspondent chronicling the American scene who melds the breadth of Mark Twain with the ultra-hipness of Hunter S. Thomson. This lecture was delivered at the School of Visual Arts September 17, 2009. Part two of five.

[ctd]...and far from booing sva for wanting to yank this, the school should be supported given that they are assuredly quite rightly concerned at being associated as a site and sponsor of the racist spew in this speech at both a moral, human level as well as at the level of an EEOC or other discrimination action against the school. oooh, listen to the nervous giggles from all the privileged, hipster kiddiwinks too conformist and fatuous to call mr. hickey on it....

ya know....i think the art world needs all the provocative bomb-throwers it can get....but i just heard mr. hickey say here, by way of shaking his fist at art-market commercialism,...."it just makes a bunch of jews a bunch of money." and i gotta say, i find that vile, spelled, v-i-l-e. is everyone so hip and PC they are afraid to call a vile racist canard what it is? it is inaccurate as well, given the racial/ethnic diversity of art-market greedheads. Immanuel Kant And Dave Hickey are of great value, politically correct critiques are of value, neither are capable of being 'eviscerated'. I don't believe you, or I, know enough about The Critique of Pure Reason to 'Fuck' Mr. Kant or Mr. Hickey. :)
