Steve Levy -- Champion of Human Rights?

On October 30, 2006, Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy launched into a detailed rant about the undocumented mothers of US-citizen children, calling them "anchor babies" and spreading misinformation about the closure of the maternity ward at Southampton Hospital.

Levy also spoke about immigration and illegal immigration in general. This clip is one of his closing remarks from the speech.

The report featured in the video -- "Climate of Fear: Latino Immigrants in Suffolk County, N.Y." -- was issued by the Southern Poverty Law Center in September 2009.

The report detailed a decade of anti-immigrant rhetoric and violence in Suffolk, dubbing Levy, "the enabler in chief."
