I shoot a medieval style English longbow-no arrow rest, just wood, the string and my hands. Compounds with the gears, release, trigger etc--are like bow guns. Yow. I guess you can learn to shoot these pretty quickly--the true longbows of old take forever to master, but it feels lie you're moving Nature. But compounds are fascinating technical machines.

I'm getting a bit tired of all these haughty people talking about how they shoot a medieval long bow. Guess what? I'm a 110 pound girl. I have to shoot a compound to get the poundage to guarantee I'll kill a deer not just injure it. So stop trying to be so snotty and superior. And to all those who think only rednecks shoot compound bows, tell it to my gucci purse and my 4.286 gpa.

@crazydriver1978 sometimes even if its bent it still hits, do you think its because its an older bow I have a Martin Ocelot (you've probably never heard of it) i was wondering if a string stopper would help?

@HuntinAndFishin101 yer probably over bending your elbow. try bending your elbow slightly less. ive never been able to bend my arm fully straight so i dont have the problem of the inside of my elbow being too close to the string. i saw a friend do it to himself. the only thing i could say is 'dude, get yer elbow out of there.' give er a pull, lemme know how it goes

@prohumanbeing turn that bow sideways, add a pistol grip or shoulder stock, a string cocking lever, and a built in trigger to release the string and what do you call it?

@prohumanbeing I'm actually making a hickory-osage longbow. I love primitive archery, modern is barely even archery.

@prohumanbeing I used to hunt with a Longbow, I was taught how to shoot with a longbow for 4 years and even when I was out hunting, I was still making rookie mistakes. Longbows are very tricky to master, but when you get the perfect shot, you can feel it, it's like the bow becomes a part of you.

when i first started shooting compound i was less acurate then when i shoot recurve you still need a lot of techinque no matter what you shoot even if you shoot with a release aid
