Smoke filled the cabin on board British Airways flight BA288. This is from the Tarmac.

The video being being utilized was captured by me on the tarmac. The odor of the smoke quickly took your breathe away and burned the lungs. The odor quickly become more potent and the instant feeling of being a trapped animal rushed over me. The captain came over the PA and announced we would be heading back to the gate due to this intense odor. Moments later, directly across from where I was standing, passengers began to scream and yell, "FIRE!" At this point, what appeared to be chaos broke out in the cabin and a passenger rushed the emergency exit door and opened it while a flight attendant yelled not to. The passenger exited and at that instant the captain announced that we were to go to manual exit and the flight attendants quickly began opening the exit doors to get the passengers out as quickly as possible. The BA staff did a great job to get everyone out of the plane and onto the tarmac.

  • @TheWarPlanet what if they dropped their bag and then someone tripped over it causing a pile up of people and more injuries? it may be you one day? as crew we say leave your bags for a reason.

  • Wow. Shouldnot have opened door whilst pilot says retuning to gate. Passenger doesnot realise - Pilot puts throttle up - Door open, slide inflats passengers jumps - _______. These people are blaming it on and staff say not to open doors because the passenger could have gotten sucked or pushed by the engine. I agree with the flight attendants but still wouldn't like to be in 'that' situation for long. Put your t-shirt over you mouth and nose to breath (I think helps).

  • sad to see you BA, Thomson, Ryanair crew figting... like it matters, we all have the same passion :))

  • @Doctors2Advocate I can assure you it isn't, minus glasses and shoes - this happened to me in Canada, there was a supposed bomb on board - there were various injuries plus a passenger had a heart attack .

  • WEEE! Bloody expensive slide ride! Glad all were safe...

  • @Doctors2Advocate It isn't trust me, we try to avoid evacuating unless its absolutely necessary. There are always injuries involved, ankles broken, noses broken from people falling over, people get crushed etc. A lot safer if your able to get back on stand or do a precautionary disembarkation which involves bringing stairs to the aircraft or using 1 or 2 slides in an organised slower and safer way.

  • Damn it'd be fun to slide down that shit.

  • @MrBulutboy thank you sir!

  • @fryanventu Tar Mac is the hard Black surface on an aiports runaway and ground is soft, hard ans any other gound

  • What's the difference between the words "tarmac" and "ground"?
