PART 4
But the music was flowing out from his flute like song from a meadow lark. It was good for ears to listen to, so we got off our horses and sat awhile. Pretty soon the fire for revenge went from our hearts and we got back on our horses and returned to the home camp. I know now that music is stronger than anger. Aho Ootaneo, whoever you are.

PART 3
At one point, young Mahkpia-Luta, or Red-Cloud, who was riding foreward reined in his mustang and signaled halt. We strained ears to the wind. Pretty soon the sound of flute came into our ears. We followed the source and overtook a lone Crow sitting crosslegged on the ground with flute to his lips. We ought have brained and scalped this Crow, whose people of recent had killed some of ours.

PART 2
We were going to take horses and scalp from Ootaneo, white mans Crow injuns. Our small party was in command of Hehaka-Sapa, or Black-Elk, a Holy man, who had made us good Medicine for the trail.
Door-flaps on all the lodges yet were night-closed as we rode single file along the trail leading from camp. By the time we reached ice that was Wolf creek, wind was howling from the North Point, whistling through the gap and bending boughs on pine tree that fringed each side of the creek.

PART 1
It was a good many snows before this one, but I yet recall that day as if it were the one before this. Our people, about thirty lodges of Oglala were wintering along ice that was a narrow creek off Witaiyohe, or Tongue river. The day broke cold. Frost was heavy on the ground, and breath of man and horse came out in white clouds. But snow yet was light, so our party of ten men, painted and feathered-up for the war trail, went to the winter corral and got on our horses.

Not sure how often you read the comments, but I thank you for your music and for sharing. It really touches the soul, I mean deep within. Amazing how the music drifts me away to a wide open land. Peace to you Ronald.
