This is one of the videos I took while I was volunteering with the Salesians of Don Bosco in Petion Ville, Haiti this summer. Since it's a little dark and kind of blurry, I didn't originally plan on posting it- now it seems all too appropriate. The girls dancing all lived in the area and worked hard to put on this performance. While we are seeing so much death and poverty on TV after the earthquake, I think it is important to see the lifestyle and rich culture of Haiti.

If anyone viewing this has information on the Peres Salesiens in Petion Ville, Haiti, I would sincerely appreciate your information. I have not been able to reach any of my friends, as the phone and internet lines are down. I am looking for any information that people can give me about the church, school, and neighborhood surrounding the following address:

Peres Salesiens
34, Rue Lambert
Petion Ville, Haiti

You can't heal the entire world, but you can make a donation that will help- text HAITI to 90999 to make a $10 donation to the Red Cross (billed to your cell phone bill). Here's a brief list of places collecting donations:
The International Red Cross is accepting donations through their International Response Fund: https://american.redcross.org/site/Donation2?4306.donation=form1&idb=4287...

Mercy Corps is also accepting donations and has already sent a disaster relief team:

Doctors Without Borders desperately needs donations- their buildings were damaged and they are first responders to many people hurt by the earthquake:

Partners in Health is another NGO providing healthcare to the poor and collecting donations:

The World Food Programme is assembling teams to distribute food to all those affected by the hurricane: https://www.wfp.org/donate/haiti

UNICEF states on its website that children are the most vulnerable population in any disaster. UNICEF is also collecting donations to help children affected by the quake:

Pray for Haiti.

  • Thank you for sharing this video with us, and I hope you had enjoyed your trip in Haiti.

  • and you know dont look at the disaster as the end for haiti i look at it as a new begining for the whole country. Haiti will become one of the top destination for vacation.

  • that was awesome!

  • Thank you SO much for this. Not once have I seen a positive image of Haiti in the media, and I mean that.

It's shameful, though, because Haiti is such a beautiful country, albeit the poverty.
