Tom is the best bass player on the planet and a nice guy! Spoken by "The Bluesman" and spoken well. If anyone disagrees I will put you in the hospital PUNKS.

has anybody picked up that he's playing an old george harrison song?

i LOVE the sound of 12 string basses! of the 9 times i saw king's x, i only say doug play one once. i saw monty colvin play 4, 8 and 12 string basses with the galalctic cowboys. there was a band in winston salem, nc called motorfinger, who's bass player had a 12 string. and some power pop band from asheville whose bass player had a hamer 12. those are the only bands i have seen play them. i've always wanted to pick one up and play it!

John Paul Jones' 12-string basses are quite different.
Petersson plays what some people call a 4x3 12-string bass. that is 4 courses of tripled strings.
Petersson never left "4 strings", he just added more and more octave strings.
first a 4x2 8-string, then a 4x3 12-string.
Jones plays a 6x2 12-string bass. 6 courses of doubled strings, just like a 12-string guitar.
Jones played an 8-string (4x2), and from there started adding more courses.
first a 5x2 10-string, then a 6x2 12-string.

@Producersman Wrong. The bass strings are tuned the same way you tune a 4-string bass: EADG. The two octave strings above each bass string are tuned in unison one octave higher than the bass strings. I own the world's only all-aluminum 12-string bass. Guess who just ordered the world's second? Yup, Tom Petersson. They're built by Electrical Guitar Company. Mine's shaped like one of Tom's old Quad basses, Tom's will be a standard EGC body flipped upside down, with a gold pick guard.

Is it true the there is a V on the middle string of the triple group? I assumed it was fundamental and two unison octaves. Either way, it's a GREAT foundation to this band's unique sound--not necessarily suitable for a solo, though. Tremoloing through a few notes while rocking back and forth--but I do love their sound.

This is so old... Look at the shorts the guy holding the cable is wearing!
MTV edited the concert and gave you what they thought were the "best parts"....they should know, they are music television, right?
