This touching excerpt from Japanology highlights a dying man's dedication to replacing the ancient traditional masks of the Western island community of Okinoshima off the Sea of Japan. The original masks were lost when the Kokomu-ji burned, and this community is the only place in Japan where the Renge-Emai dance has been maintained for centuries.
