Great! And 'pass out cold' in such a moment... Poor Freddie! Well done, my congratulations!

If you like to hear the two of them together-they made a recording together in 1972. It is called The Complete London Session.

great info. i love fred's voice. i have CDs from both of them. masters of their own chosen crafts, and more!

hilarious they make fun of a 300 pound blob of a woman, lol!

What fun! You so cleverly matched the images and lyrics. And I've never heard that particular recording of that song.

Looking back, I think -- and I'll always hold to this opinion, that by far and away the best catalogue of Irving's songs as a movie is "Alexander's Ragtime Band", maybe because it was directed by a first-rate "straight" director, Henry King,& with Ty Power, usually not associated with musicals!
By the way, it was Irving Berlin who suggested my grandfather "Anglo size" his last name during WWI from the Germanic "Krause" to "Jerome". I'm far more grateful to Irving for that than "White Christmas"!

I know what you mean-the story of Blue Skies is well... less than engaging. It's function is only to keep the musical numbers together. However, I don't think that you watch musicals for the story. It is besides the point. Enjoy the very fine performances of two great artists, the great music and let the rest slide. I do.
Really nice and original. I love the two of them together. Its too bad they only made 2 films together. Its funny though that Astaire always said that he couldn't sing, and in this song they make fun of his singing. He didn't have Crosby's voice but he sure could put a tune over. Astaire said that he could sing about as well as Crosby could dance. Crosby always thought that was a great compliment on his dancing-he thought Astaire singing was more than good.

I'd settle for Blue Skies being better than it is -- I'm not really crazy about that one. We get Puttin' on the Ritz and Bing has a few good songs (well, this IS Irving Berlin here), but the story... I know it's only a musical, but couldn't anyone come up with a better script than that? Bah.
Yes, Fred was an excellent singer. No, he didn't have Bing's voice, but who did? Bing, on the other hand, was... not much of a dancer.
Thanks for the comment. :)
