PASSAGALIA F-major (from the Suite D-major)
This gorgeous ostinato piece is the last one of Reusner´s famous collection of suites for the 11course baroque lute "Neue Lautenfrüchte" (printed 1676).
Though, Reusner had the official position of a theorbo player for church music at the famous Thomaskirche in Leipzig (under Thomaskantor Sebastian Knüpfer) from 1672 -1674, only very few pieces for this instrument did survive (and most of them with some doubts in the autorship).
Thus, i join the opinion of the famous Robert de Visée, who regularly recycled his and other author´s music between the baroque lute and the theorbo.
This great ostinato piece has a strong suggestive power and it would be a pity to leave it for the baroque lute exclusively. Transposition to F (resp. C-major at the "big" theorbo in a) yields a fluently playable piece using some idiomatic possibilities of the theorbo and without changing the sublime character of the music.

if you can excuse my rough english and playing - beeing a bloody amateur in both matters stumbling through the scores - you still may enjoy this music.
******THANK YOU for listening and rating******
A great work for the plucked string. The PASSAGALIA type of dance is a very welcoming and pleasant to hear. Variant has a good starting basis of the ostinato. Thanks for sharing and greetings.

...thanks fot the compliment.. The ostinato music is one of the main domaines of the theorbo, also in ensemble music.
However, now i play this pieces more in units of two bars (alternating one strong and one more soft bar). This enhences the suggestive character of these pieces... kindest regards - S.
