I saw this show in NY in 1983 but Jennifer and the other guy who played James Thunderbird had moved to CA to do the Dreamgirls there. Their replacements were just as good but of course the originals had edge over them. This was the bomb and i did however enjoy the movie version.

I just saw J. Holiday on CNN talking about Whitney when Whitney got started in business and I appreciated Jennifer's honest. I forgot just how strong a performer J was in the early 80's. J. owned Broadway! On vocals, J. was as powerful as Whitney, which made me wonder why W. was so special. Yes, W, had voice, but her voice alone did not make her a legend. W. had the complete package: voice, presence, truth, charm, drive and mystery--how could someone be so perfect, which was her allure.
