Gil made a call that was way ahead of its time. Using radar for weather was brand new, and at that time the only other people using radar for the same were in Kansas and Oklahoma. He had to make the call on his own, and as a result saved thousands of lives. I attended Univ of Dayton a few years after the tornado hit Xenia and met him along with several other people in the storm.

The hook echo on radar is real, but Gil later said this clip of him in the studio was a remake for the Superoutbreak documentary. I wonder if WHIO has the original video of his warning in their library. THAT would be cool to see. He saved hundreds that day by staying glued to the radar and going live when the hook echo appeared.
