Max Morath in concert on 5/24/1963.

First Song: "I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now"

"A song that surely owes its enduring success to the fact that we all have, in a wistful moment, asked ourselves this exasperating question"

-Max Morath

Second Song: "Take Me Out To The Ball Game"

"All I can say is, I intend to keep working on it."

-Max Morath

Third Song: "My Name Is Morgan(But It Ain't J.P.)"

"This one popped up in the Caribbean as a calypso a few years ago[1960's] and is therefore often respectfully received as a folk-song. But alas, as it is really just a popular song originally written and published in 1905, one of a long line of sturdy ragtime songs of the 'Bill Bailey' school"

  • Our favorite recording of Max's is "Jonah Man". Max's recording of the Bert Williams songbook is absolutely one of my favorite collections of all time. We would love to hear some of the selections from that CD on your YouTube page. Max is a friend and compatriot and a national treasure. He should never be overlooked in the history of American music.

  • You are absolutly right. I am accually in contact with Mr. Morath very often(email) so I have learned a lot from him. Jonah Man. I have an old LP of it, but not a cd. I agree, I love those recording too. I'll see what I can do.

  • I met Max in the late 60's when I was about 8 yrs old, when he was at my grandparents home in Palm Beach, along with Eubie Blake. The two of them played several duets on the piano that I remember sitting and listening entranced. He could make Eubie laugh 'til he couldn't breathe.

I saw him again in New Orleans in 76 or 77 at Al Rose's house, and the last time I saw him was in Cocoa Beach in 1988 or 89 when he did "A Ragtime Life" at Brevard Community College. A truly amazing performer.

  • The Jonah Man album has been released on CD and you can get it from Max. Best of luck in your endeavors!
