I met Max in the late 60's when I was about 8 yrs old, when he was at my grandparents home in Palm Beach, along with Eubie Blake. The two of them played several duets on the piano that I remember sitting and listening entranced. He could make Eubie laugh 'til he couldn't breathe.
I saw him again in New Orleans in 76 or 77 at Al Rose's house, and the last time I saw him was in Cocoa Beach in 1988 or 89 when he did "A Ragtime Life" at Brevard Community College. A truly amazing performer.

Our favorite recording of Max's is "Jonah Man". Max's recording of the Bert Williams songbook is absolutely one of my favorite collections of all time. We would love to hear some of the selections from that CD on your YouTube page. Max is a friend and compatriot and a national treasure. He should never be overlooked in the history of American music.
