People sometimes comment about how violent the mirror slap is on a Hasselblad V system camera. They claim you can't handhold the camera and make sharp pictures. To put the myth to rest, I have balanced a penny on its side on top of my 150mm C lens and fired my 503cx. The camera is just sitting on the table. I have not secured it to anything.

  • i'm just lookin at some rolleiflex vs hasselblad reviews, one advantage all the ppl name is that that rollei is pretty quiet.

This hassi is a really noisy beast !

the penny trick is nice though i wonder if it could be fake ,)

  • It's not fake. I wouldn't waste my time doing something like that.

  • Sure you can. Hang a Hasselblad and a Mamiya 7 from equal length cables and let them swing down and smack into each other. One of them will live and one of them will die.

  • Ah, it's the most beautiful sound to hear in real life.

  • i have used my 503CW for street photography and portraits Both while traveling around Japan, California and London. The pictures are always pin sharp. A testament to the lens and resolution of 120 film that is only equaled by a 10k camera. For best scanning use a drum scanner and slide film (E6) The quality and tonal range is to die for on the spot. You can also flip the mirror prior to shooting so you dont get any slap.

  • to those who say its fake it is NOT. i tested this on my friend's hasselblad 500c and on MY bronica etrsi and its real.

  • needs inception music

  • Nice test!

  • Respect man. I'll try the same with my Nikon.

  • @luketrash The original Mamiya M Is built like a tank. No Plastic. I have one of those too.

  • @luketrash ...Or you could just swing the hassy into a wall and prove your point. THAT video would be worth watching.

  • pentax 6x7 that penny would be loooooong gone :D

  • @Christoff87 haha I just hand held my Mamiya RB67 and balanced a penny on my 90mm lens while firing a shot just fine. :)

I enjoy using the one I'm borrowing currently for street photography (mostly been shooting in Santa Monica, Downtown LA). I find it interesting-- Obviously it takes a bit more time to setup the shots so you can't get those split second reaction shots you can with, say, a rangefinder--

The really cool part is that people have no idea what the f*** you're holding and looking down at, so they pretty much just ignore you completely-- A great thing for street photos.
